0

We must keep the pressure on the rest of the WA House delegation to join prime sponsor Jayapal and co-sponsor Smith in co-sponsoring HR 1976, the Medicare for All Act of 2021. This is the best and most economical proposal to provide comprehensive, affordable and equitable health care to everyone in our country.

➤ Please use the links above in Call to Action #2 to ask your Rep to co-sponsor the Medicare Act of 2021, H.R. 1976.   Rep. Jayapal or Smith constituents, thank your Rep for being an original Co-sponsor.

➤  Sen. Sanders will reintroduce his Senate companion bill soon, and we will continue to urge Senators Murray and Cantwell to get on board!

HCHR-WA Welcomes the SCOTUS Ruling against the Republican Suit to End the Affordable Care Act

This is good news for the 20 million people who would have lost their health coverage, including 825,000 Washingtonians. It is also good news for advancing the State Based Universal Health Care Act (HR 3775), which would provide needed federal support to WA and other states attempting to create universal public plans to cover all their residents. SBUHC accomplishes this by amending the ACA.

But let us keep our eyes on the prize:  improved and expanded Medicare for All (HR 1976). Many studies have shown this is the best and most economical way to provide guaranteed, comprehensive, affordable and equitable health care to everyone in our country. The ACA was a huge step forward, but it does not solve the problems of health care cost and affordability, it does not eliminate racial health care inequities, and it leaves millions out altogether. Until Congress is able to pass a national plan like Medicare for All, we need to make sure that the ACA remains in place to protect those who depend on it, and that it is amended by SBUHC so states can lead the way towards universal health care.
